Both Naviera Armas and Fred Olsen are ferry companies that connect La Gomera with the island of Tenerife several times a day. Fred Olsen also offers internal connection within the island of La Gomera between San Sebastian and Valle Gran Rey.
Below we detail the different existing transport that connect the island of La Gomera:
For lovers of hiking and of nature we suggest Cascada de Arure. We recommend that you do not deviate from the marked path and ensure that you have proper hiking shoes when you start your hike from “La Casa de la Seda” in Valle Gran Rey to La Cascada.
The route is approximatly 1,5 hours in each direction. Medium difficulty.
This is a must see, especially on a clear day. From the Alto de Garajonay one can see the islands of La Palma, El Hierro, and Tenerife.
We recommend that you include this stop within one the many routes that cross the island.
The best panoramic views of Valle Gran Rey are from this plateau atop one of its defining mountains.
We recommendbeginningthe trek by foot to La Merica following the existing marked path from La Calera, continuing to the town of Arure, and using public transportation to bring you back to Valle Gran Rey.
This is one of the most beautiful parts of the island. Starting the route at the Chorros de Epina in the municipality of Vallehermosowhere, according to tradition, one drinks from the even or odd numbered “chorros” (jets) of water depending upon whether you are male or female.
Continue to the town of Vallehermoso, and then walk the streets of Agulo, one the most beautiful villages in Spain with the best views of the volcano El Teide. Finish the route in the adjacent town of Hermigua, with theimpressive views from the pescante de Hermigua.
This is one of our favorite places. Begin with a visit to the Chapel of Lourdes. A walk through the heart of theGarajonayNational Park, allows one to appreciate the nature and splendor of the island. After taking the mandatory photos from the wooden bridge that crosses the stream, the route continues to the bar and restaurant camping La Vista where typical Gomera cuisine is served, including “potaje de berros”(watercress stew).
There are several boats that make excursions to this geological formation, so called because of its resemblance to this wind instrument. A visit to Los Órganos in the north of Vallehermoso will not leave any passenger indifferent.
This glass-floored Mirador that defies the laws of physics, is anchored in a reddish terrain that reminds us of a science fiction movie scenery. On clear days one can see the town of Agulo below with El Teide as a backdrop.
This singular dome and natural viewpoint. La fortaleza de Chipude is locatednear the town of Chipude, in the municipality of Vallehermoso. After visiting this natural monument, we recommend that you continue the trip by car to the beach of La Rajita beach.
You rent both kayaks and paddle boards to discover the neighboring coastline. Go on a rowing adventure to discover playa de las arenas past the well-known Argaga beach.
We recommend Gomeractiva for the rental of these devices.
For lovers of nature and sports we recommend the bike routes. A circular route through the center of the island is the best way to integrate into nature and discover this magical island.
One of the mandatory things to doin La Gomera is the sighting of dolphins or whales. We recommend the adventure in its purest form together with the Océano Whale Watching team (where Nicole's work and passion stand out) in the port of Vueltas in Valle Gran Rey.
La Gomera is the perfect island to discover on foot. It has 650 km of trails throughout the entire island to go from its Garajonay National Park to even the smallest corner of the island. Apart from the route to the "sites of interest" described on this website, we recommend visiting La Laguna Grande rom where some trails start, the circular path of Las Creces …
There arenatural black sand beaches scattered throughout the island of La Gomera. Some of them, such as Playa del inglés in Valle Gran Rey or Playa del Medio in Santiago are clothing optional. Some, such as El Charco del Conde; in Valle Gran Rey, are ideal for small children, while Playa de la Calera in Valle Gran Reyis an open ocean beach. The port of Vueltasbeach in Valle Gran Rey and the beach of the port of San Sebastián are protected beaches.
To make solid recommendations, we only mention and recommend the places where we have eaten more than once.
